Dictum Society has worked on constitutional amendments to bring our founding document in line with our experiences and the Constitutions of other comparable law student societies across Australia. We will be putting the amendments to vote as one of the matters of business at the AGM. We hope it will benefit future committees and be robust for years to come.

Election of New Committee
Dictum Society holds an AGM each year to elect new student representatives. The following positions make up Dictum Society:

Terms and Conditions of Nomination
To apply for a position you must abide by the following Terms and Conditions set out below:
You must be a currently enrolled student of Victoria University and a current member of Dictum Society.
Your application must be seconded by a currently enrolled student of Victoria University who is also a current member of Dictum Society.
The deadline for nominations is Sunday 11:59PM on 18 October 2017. Any nominations received after this time on this date will be deemed invalid.
You may nominate for a maximum of two positions. If you choose to nominate for two positions, you must indicate as such. Further, if you choose to nominate for two positions, you must disclose this in both of your nomination statements.
Your name and nomination statement will be published on the Dictum Society website when received or by 19 October 2017. It will be removed on 27 October 2017 after the 2017 Dictum Society Annual General Meeting has been closed. This information may also be shared by Dictum Society via Dictum Society's official social media accounts.
At the 2017 Dictum Society Annual General Meeting, you will be able to speak for 90 seconds (1 and a half minutes) as to why you believe you should be elected. Two questions from the audience will be allowed, and you will have 30 seconds to respond to each question. Time limits will be strictly enforced to ensure that the meeting remains on track. You may waive this option or elect to simply read out your nomination statement if you so choose.
No person who has nominated for any position may ask questions to another candidate.
If you have nominated for a position that is unopposed and has not received other nominations, you will be elected to the position by default and will not be afforded the above speaking time.
Campaigning via social media, general electronic means or printed materials is strictly prohibited. You may message or email persons privately, however, any public posts, public pictures, emails sent via clubs, societies, general group emails, organisations or Victoria University email groups or printed materials will invalidate your nomination if brought to the attention of Dictum Society prior to, at or following the 2017 Dictum Society Annual General Meeting.
Any breach of the Members Code of Conduct in Dictum Society's current Constitution which occurs between the date your nomination is received and 26 October 2017 may be grounds to invalidate your nomination.
If elected, your term will not formally commence until 25 November 2017. Between 26 October 2017 and 25 November 2017, you will be provided with the option to shadow the current holder of the position to which you have been elected and attend Dictum Society Committee meetings. You will receive a handover document detailing the practicalities of the role before 25 November 2017.

How to Apply
Voting members unable to attend may provide their proxy to another voting member. Each person may only cast one proxy vote (so their own vote and one additional vote in total). Proxy votes must be submitted by 19 October 2017.
